Pump That Pigskin starts the season 1-0
Thursday, September 13th, 2007Wednesday night flag football is back and kicked off last night. Pump That Pigskin (PTP) has a slightly different look this year compared to last. For the most part, we’ve lost some speed and our QB. Replacing the gaps, we’ve added some size and surer hands to our receiving core and yours truly is behind the center. So what was the outcome? PTP beat the Indianapolis Colts in the season opener, 12-6. The Colts were a young an inexperienced team and that’s mainly what hurt them. They had a speedy, Michael Vick-like quarterback (he was quite the scrambler, not a dog killer) who had a strong resemblance to Taye Diggs lead their team. Outside of him, the talent dropped off quite a bit. Once our defensive line crashed down on him, their fate was ultimately sealed. The rest of their team got down on each other and their female players didn’t know the rules. (One girl had a ball swatted away before she could catch it, then she ran to the ref and whined, “you said there’s no blocking!”) They also held onto the ball for far too long, which is what killed them in the end. Down a touchdown with 30+ seconds left on the clock and inside the 10 yard line, time expired before they even got the snap off. PTP’s touchdowns came from the air attack, with Brandon Clark and Wayne Milczarek hauling in one apiece. Two touchdowns on three offensive possessions is what won the game. It’s startling to think what would have happened had the Colts not mismanaged the clock and we had actually gotten the ball more!
