Batting Practice at Sluggers

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

Today, my friend Glenn and I took batting practice in at the batting cages to gear up for next weekend’s tryout. I don’t exactly know what the deal was, but I couldn’t hit for shit. It wasn’t the nicest batting cage (those of you who have been to Sluggers can back me up on that), but I should have done a little better. I was ahead of everything. My timing was a mess. I couldn’t read the machine very well in the poorly lit bar. And yes, I said bar. How sad is that. The only batting cages anywhere near me are in the attic of a freakin’ bar. I just can’t wait to get this season started. Out on a real field, playing a real sport - no more 16″ softball in an open area with some dirt and grass. Can you feel my bitterness? Maybe I’ll set up a tee in my studio apartment.

Registered for the CNMSBL

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

As of today, I’m registered for the Chicago North Men’s Senior Baseball League (CNMSBL) and I’m as fired up as ever. It’s a men’s baseball league for guys 25+ in Chicago’s north suburbs. I’ve been wanting to play ball again since my last day on the field. I’ve gone to hundreds of games and I’ve even coached a few years but nothing compares to taking the field in fair territory as opposed to sitting or standing in foul. The last two years, I’ve played softball in a north suburb, so the only difference this time around is it’s the real deal and it’s two nights a week. When I say real deal - March 3rd is player evaluations and the draft. Yep, I haven’t been drafted since I was 10 years old at Eastwood Little League. I keep picturing myself getting announced and putting on the team’s cap as if this were the NFL or NBA Draft. I know it’s going to be nothing like that, but a man can dream. I’ll keep you all posted as the ball gets rolling. I just wanted to share a little of this excitement with the rest of you.

Maceapalooza 4 was a success!

Sunday, February 18th, 2007

Maceapalooza 4 has come and gone and what a weekend it was! Friday night was spent at Duffy’s, then back to my place for boxing. Saturday afternoon was spent at My Pie, then Family Guy, Cheaters and more boxing before heading out. The night’s festivities began at Trinity but the real party started at The Burwood Tap! Thanks to everyone that came out from around town, drove in from Michigan and even flew in from Reno! You’re all great people and I’m lucky to have you as my friends.
